Welcome to Jen Hargrove Counseling, where you’ll find warmth, compassion, support, and a little humor as you journey towards growth and healing. My approach is rooted in Attachment Theory, which emphasizes the importance of secure relationships in promoting well-being. I believe that through a trusting and secure therapeutic relationship, we can all access what we need to make changes and strengthen our connection to ourselves and others.
I believe that everyone deserves to feel heard and understood. I also understand that life can be challenging and sometimes we need extra support to navigate through difficult experiences. My aim is to create a safe and non-judgmental space where you can share your unique story and experiences as we explore your emotions, thoughts, and behaviors. You have a lot to offer, and I am here to support you.
I specialize in working with teens as well as parents to kids of all ages. I hold a special affinity for LGBTQIA teens and their families. Having affirming care and support makes a huge impact on mental health.
Whether it’s managing stress, improving communication, strengthening relationships, setting boundaries, or finding strategies to address challenging behaviors, we will work together to build insight and develop strategies that work best for you.
As a teen, you are navigating through a complex and ever-changing world. There are unique challenges and emotions that come with this stage of life. Whether it’s dealing with anxiety, depression, or relationships, I am here to listen and help you find the strategies that work for you. My goal is to provide a safe and supportive environment that empowers you to manage your emotions, build resilience, and develop healthy coping skills.
In working with teens, I commonly draw from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) and Motivational Interviewing, three evidence-based approaches that have been shown to be effective in helping teens manage a wide range of mental health issues. I am committed to co-creating a safe, supportive, and non-judgmental environment. Building trust and a strong therapeutic relationship is at the heart of my practice. I believe that with the right support, every teen can thrive.
As a parent, it’s essential to prioritize your own self-care and mental health. You are the foundation of your family’s well-being. Parenting comes with unique joys and challenges. I am here to support you on your journey. We will work together to develop the skills and strategies necessary to manage stress, improve your mental health, and prioritize self-care. By discovering and utilizing your strengths, you can live in alignment with your authentic self.
I approach each session with empathy and a gentle, compassionate style of inquiry to help you feel heard and understood. My goal is to act as an advocate for your growth and to affirm your efforts whether you’re dealing with anxiety, depression, or looking to increase connection and build fulfilling relationships with those you love. We’ll focus on your own needs, an aspect that’s often overlooked while navigating the ups and downs of parenting.
